Upcoming events, get-togethers and conferences
Hello to all our SARIPA Members,
I hope that all of you are keeping well and that you are enjoying the last few days of our South African winter!!
As we head into the last few months of 2024, I wanted to give you all a quick snapshot of what is coming up on the SARIPA calendar. We have some very exciting webinars, get-togethers, events, and, of course, our SARIPA end-of-year national conference.
SARIPA Business Rescue Summit - Houghton, JHB
Monday, 30 September 2024
There is great excitement in the lead-up to the SARIPA Business Rescue Summit, due to take place at the Houghton Hotel on Monday, 30 September. This is an event that has been long in the making and one that you simply cannot afford to miss. SARIPA will be bringing together a number of high profile speakers who will unpack the current state of South Africa's corporate restructuring regime, and with a very strong focus on Chapter 6 of the 2008 Companies Act, namely Business Rescue.
The Summit is titled: The state of health of corporate restructuring in South Africa - What are the lessons learnt and how can we do it better?
We have a packed programme lined up. The summit will include speakers from the World Bank talking about the need for effective restructuring tools on the global stage, representatives from our business rescue practitioners profession, lawyers involved in this area of practice, and importantly, representatives of the major South African financial institutions, who will all be sharing their views on the topic.
We will also be joined by a number of senior academics who will discuss suggested improvements to our existing Chapter 6 legislation. In the final session, we will hear from a number of international restructuring experts from the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, the USA, and Kenya - all sharing their views on international best practice in the restructuring and rescue space.
The panel discussions will highlight and debate current challenges relevant to the business rescue mechanism, and with a particular focus on where are we going to in South Africa with business rescue and where we expect to land up in the years to come. I am confident that we will have a fruitful and enriching debate. SARIPA Annual National Conference - Sun Sibaya, KZN
31 October to 1 November 2024
Cutting edge and insightful discussion will take place around insolvency and business rescue issues, and as always we will have some great breakaway sessions for BRP's, IP's and the financial institutions (lenders). The opportunity to network, meet old (and new) colleagues and to listen in on the views of SARIPA professionals will all be on offer! Including a Fun Run, Golf, Yoga, Cocktail Party and Comedy Evening.
We have over 350 delegates attending this exciting event in person, and it is now fully booked! BUT members who can't join us in KZN, can still participate online. The 2-day conference proceedings, including all main sessions, will be livestreamed on Zoom.

INSOL Courses
The ever-popular Insolvency and Business Rescue courses will open for 2025 registrations on 1st October. So far we have had over 100 students participate in the courses, which are lectured by experienced practitioners sharing their thoughts and input in these areas of practice. The course is run jointly by INSOL International and SARIPA, and is a must-have if one is committed to upskilling one's knowledge base.

Mentorships
Our Mentorship Programme for 2025 is now open for applications, and we will be circulating details on a regular basis. Join the programme for an opportunity to meet up with and be mentored by senior practitioners in the field of insolvency and business rescue.
We are excited to announce that our 2025 Mentorship Programme will commence in January 2025. Applicants must be in good standing and have a SARIPA designation.
