Chairperson's Message

01 February 2022

Hello to all of our SARIPA members and I hope that you are all well and are settling into 2022.

Last Friday, the board of SARIPA re-appointed me to act as Chairperson of SARIPA for the next three years. Haroon Laher was also re-appointed as Vice-Chairperson.

Haroon and I are both humbled and very privileged to have been re-appointed to act in these capacities and to once again work together with our board of directors and COO, Rene Bekker, to take the organisation through to the end of 2025.

Our vision remains unchanged. We aim to continue to cement SARIPA's position as the most relevant insolvency and restructuring organisation on the continent, and where our members benefit from our ongoing interactions with the relevant regulators; where we continue to bring high-level educational content and training to all of our members across the country by way of our cutting edge webinars and conferences; and where SARIPA continues to bring our members up to date on all aspects of our profession on an ongoing basis.

The board of SARIPA has already had its first board meeting of 2022. Besides the numerous projects that we are working on this year (details of which will shortly be shared with you), what is most exciting is that the board are unanimous of the view that (with all things being equal and where South Africa continues to make inroads in defeating the Covid-19 pandemic), 2022 will see the re-introduction of our highly popular face to face meetings, networking events and which will include live conferences. So watch this space!!

As of Friday last week, SARIPA 's membership now stands at 676 members, the highest number of members in our history. SARIPA remains proud to be INSOL International's 5th largest Member Organisation in the world and where we rank well above many other developed international jurisdictions.

SARIPA has every intention of progressing all aspects of restructuring and insolvency in South Africa and the region, and where SARIPA hopes to continue to partner with INSOL International in achieving this objective going forward.

Our brand new SARIPA/INSOL Programme in Insolvency Law and Practice is well on its way, and where we have had a pleasing number of registrations for the course.

The SARIPA board, Rene, Haroon and myself want to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a fantastic 2022 and where we all want to see the end to the pandemic, the opportunity to meet and socialise with all of you, and most of all, where we can all live healthy and prosperous lives in the post-pandemic era!

Lastly, I would like to express my sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of our SARIPA members, our sponsors, the SARIPA board of directors, our COO, Rene Bekker, Angela Bailey and Wiida Hamman for your continued support of SARIPA. May the organisation go from strength to strength as we head towards 2025!!

With thanks,
Dr Eric Levenstein
SARIPA Chairperson
